Profile
The RespirAct™ is a computer-controlled gas blender used to control arterial CO2 and O2 in spontaneously breathing participants. Changing the partial pressure of CO2 and O2 in the blood is done to stimulate blood flow responses in organs which can then be monitored using imaging technology (i.e. TCD or MRI). Monitoring blood flow response to blood gas changes in these organs reveals aspects related to their vascular beds. This technology has many potential applications, including understanding the mechanisms of injury in stroke patients. In the U.S., RespirAct™ is available for investigational purposes only and is distributed by Thornhill Medical for use in IRB-approved basic physiological research studies.
